Zahra Amir and her children know of homeownership first hand. Zahra and her husband owned the home in which they were raising their children in their native Afghanistan until they fell victims of that nations violence. Zahra’s husband was killed and their home burnt as their lives were immersed in tragedy.
Suddenly the homeless single mother of three children Zahra fled to the United States four years ago in search of hope for a brighter future for Naqib (18), Rafi (16), and Rabi (15). She found that hope in a partnership with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and a multifaith circle of friends who have embraced her family and share her dream for her children.
Zahara works for Dixon Industries in Des Moines while Naquib and Rafi attend Hoover High School and Rabi attends Meredith Middle School. The lived in a two bedroom rental apartment where they would dream of the day, not too far off, when they would again be homeowners. Now that dream is a reality!
