Swinging a hammer isn’t the only way to become involved in the Habitat mission. There are many other opportunities to make a difference…

ReStore Volunteers
prepare donations for display, assist customers, unload trucks, keep the store clean and organized and help with special events and trade shows. Both individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer in the ReStore

Committee Volunteers provide essential assistance and support for vital aspects of Habitat’s programs including family selection, site acquisition, quality construction and resource development.

Family Services Volunteers provide essential support to our Family Services programs whether it is translation services, helping with special events for our families or sharing their expertise at one of our Homeownership classes, click here for more information.

Youth Volunteers can support Habitat’s mission through various projects they can complete at home, school or church. Individual youth or youth groups may also volunteer on the construction site and in the ReStore, although certain age requirements apply.

AmeriCorps serve Habitat in areas such as construction, volunteer services, the ReStore and family services. For current AmeriCorps openings at Greater Des Moines HFH, click here. For more information about AmeriCorps programs, visit the website at www.americorps.org

To learn more about the following volunteer opportunities please contact Amber Duimstra.

Office Volunteers work behind the scenes to assist with the overall operation of the organization and the maintenance of our office space. Activities in the office include clerical work (data entry, filing) as well as answering phones, IT assistance and helping us prepare for special events.

Facility Maintenance Volunteers keep our office space clean and our facilities running smoothly. Facility activities include custodial work, mowing, snow removal and small engine repair or maintenance.

Warehouse Organizers help  behind the scenes.  A well organized and clean warehouse holds the key to good on-site preparedness and quick retrieval of necessary tools and materials. If you are organized and like to manage materials, you may be interested in this position.

Site Hosts are responsible for greeting volunteers as they arrive on site, collecting waivers, issuing nametags and sharing the Habitat story as well as workday details and general safety information. If you aren’t shy about talking in front of people, want to help out Habitat and only have limited time, this could be a great opportunity for you!

Lunch Crews reenergize volunteers by providing and serving a light lunch for volunteers on the jobsite.  This is a great opportunity for youth involvement!

If you are in need of school or court-ordered Community Service hours, click here for more information.
